The body is the same buffet of triangles, the engine is the same 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder engine, and the dash board still looks like it belongs on a spaceship. Inside is the same well-appointed, well-equipped, spacious interior Honda has become known for. The seats are bolstered yet comfortable. The cloth feels great, looks good, and will no doubt last as long as the car will. The dashboard does take some getting used to, but I actually found the digital speedometer just below my focal point to be a natural location. The only thing I didn’t like is how the giant windshield left me seeing nothing but black top. Visibility is important, but the only way to know where the corners of the car are is to use google earth and zoom in really close.

The N600 was introduced in 1969. It was technologically advanced for its time, with an all alloy engine which could achieve 9000 rpm. Engine output was 36–45 hp (27–34 kW) and the N600 was capable of 81 mph (130 km/h). It delivered surprisingly peppy performance because of its light weight (around 550 kg/1100 pounds), due to compact dimensions and some plastic parts (like the boot lid). The first brakes were very weak. Rear suspension was a torsion bar and leaf springs. Production was stopped in 1972, after the sportier Honda Z600 (or Z-Act, depending on country) was introduced.

The Tempra’s engine range was similar to that of the Tipo. Initially 1.4 and 1.6-litre models had carburettor engines. Both of these models were discontinued in 1992 due to the new European emission standards and thus all models from 1992 on had catalytic converters and electronic injection. Transmission was a standard 5 speed manual, but for the first time a mid size sedan was offered as with a continuously variable transmission which was previously available on Fiat Uno, Panda, Ritmo and Tipo. 2.0-litre-models were also available with an optional 4-speed automatic transmission.
During its 6 year production run, few changes were made apart from a minor facelift in 1993 resulting in a new front grille and other minor styling changes.
Chassis and main parts (most notably, the doors) were shared with the Fiat Tipo. Other vehicles, derived from the same project were Lancia Dedra (Tempra’s most similar cousin, sharing all mechanical components), Lancia Delta second generation, Alfa Romeo 155, Alfa 145 and Alfa 146.
