This Schwinn Phantom, restored by Bob Usasi is painted with Candy Apple Red, an option for the Phantom starting in 1954. This bike also features a front drum brake, whitewall Typhoon Cord tires, leather seat, and tail light. This is about as good as it gets for Phantoms. Candy paint and a drum brake all on one bike? The 300 “letter series” cars were the vehicles that really rekindled interest in performance among major American manufacturers after World War II, and thus can be considered the muscle car’s ancestors, though much more expensive and exclusive.
Chrysler has recently started using these designations again for sporting near-luxury sedans, using 300M from 1999, and continuing the 300 series with a new V8-powered 300C, the top model of a relaunched Chrysler 300 line, a completely new rear wheel drive car launched in 2004 for the 2005 model year. This is disliked by some fans of old Chryslers who do not approve of the reuse of a 300 letter series designation. Unlike the first series, the second does not have 300 hp engines, except for today’s top-line 300C.
The 1957 300C is generally considered the classic year of the 300 “letter series”. New styling was brought in, with a yawning wide front grille and fins; the Hemi engine was upgraded to 392 in³ (6.4 L) and 375 hp (280 kW), or as a very limited edition 390 hp (290 kW) version (18 built). A convertible model was available for the first time. The car had a number of red, white and blue ’300C’ medallions on the sides, hood, trunk and interior. 1,767 coupes and 484 convertibles were built.

The Opel classic experts were so fascinated by the 3.62-meter long study that they came up with the idea of producing the Strolch 70 years after its was initially developed. In this way they could also demonstrate that even back during the first compact class generation, Opel engineers put a tremendous amount of imagination and passion into their work on new models.
A normal Opel Kadett from 1938 in the classic car collection that has served as a source for spare parts is to be used as the basis. The technology specialists in the classic team immediately started in on their new project. Particularly challenging were the design of the aerodynamic rear and work on other body parts that were not part of the Opel Kadett series. Building the folding fabric top without detailed plans required a lot of imagination and technical skills, especially because the only reference materials were the old pictures.
But the engineers managed to elicit even some of the old pictures’ secrets. In order to determine the color of the old prototype, the historical black-white pictures were put through a precise greyscale analysis. This showed that the original Strolch was a bright red.

The body is the same buffet of triangles, the engine is the same 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder engine, and the dash board still looks like it belongs on a spaceship. Inside is the same well-appointed, well-equipped, spacious interior Honda has become known for. The seats are bolstered yet comfortable. The cloth feels great, looks good, and will no doubt last as long as the car will. The dashboard does take some getting used to, but I actually found the digital speedometer just below my focal point to be a natural location. The only thing I didn’t like is how the giant windshield left me seeing nothing but black top. Visibility is important, but the only way to know where the corners of the car are is to use google earth and zoom in really close.

Honda introduced several 200 cm³ bikes with similar engines but different body variations in the 1980s. The model introduced in South Africa and Pakistan was known as the CD 200 “Road Master”. It was a detuned version of the Honda CD185 twin. The CD 200 sold more for its looks then performance as its square speedometer, huge front and rear mudguards, twin chrome exhausts, neatly tucked in choke behind handle bars and a chrome plated fuel tank with the Honda logo contributed to an interesting styling.
The bike was a cheap commuter vehicle with a claimed 100 miles (160 km) per gallon and a smooth ride. Too slow for a 200 cm³ bike, its top speed was only 70 mph (112 km/h) as the engine was detuned to keep maintenance cost to a minimum. This bike targeted users who wanted a comfortable cheap transport suitable for long routes with low maintenance. Use of simple drum breaks in rear and front and a single carburetor were other measures used to keep the maintenance low. The bike accelerated hard up to 65 mph (105 km/h); after that it was a flat ride. The engine had to be revved very hard to create any kind of excitement as the bike was too heavy (140 kg) for an engine that produced a modest 16 bhp.
This model suffered from various manufacturing faults like a noisy cam chain and an unreliable electrical starter (later models were upgraded with 12 volts CDI system in the UK.). In the UK the CD200 was affected by legislation restricting learner riders to bikes limited to 125 cm³ and 12bhp. Honda introduced a 125 cm³ Benly after the CD200 was withdrawn.The CD 200 Road Master was sold in South Africa until late 2004 and was used mainly as a courier/delivery bike.It retained the 6 volt electrics and points ignition.

The Alfa Romeo 1900 was a sports sedan designed by Orazio Satta for the Alfa Romeo company in 1951. It was Alfa Romeo’s first car built entirely on a production line.
The 1900 was offered in two door or four door models, with a 1,884 cc, 90 bhp, 4 cylinder engine. It was spacious and simple, yet quick and sporty. The slogan Alfa used when selling it was “The family car that wins races”, not-so-subtly alluding to the car’s success in the Targa Florio, Stella Alpina, and other competitions. Production continued until 1959, a total of 21,304 were built.

The Citroën Traction Avant was an automobile produced by the French manufacturer Citroën. About 760,000 units were manufactured from 1934 to 1957.
The Traction Avant, designed by André Lefèbvre and Flaminio Bertoni in late 1933 / early 1934, was the first front wheel drive car in large scale production. Cord had built front wheel drive vehicles a few years earlier in limited quantities at high prices.
The car introduced the use of an arc-welded monocoque frame, where other cars of the era were based on a frame onto which the body (“coachwork”) was built. Monocoque construction results in a lighter vehicle, and is now used for virtually all car construction, although body-on-frame construction is still suitable for larger vehicles such as trucks.
This method of construction was viewed with great suspicion in many quarters, with doubts about its strength. A type of crash test was developed, taking the form of driving the car off a cliff, to illustrate its great inherent resilience.
The novel design made the car seem very low-slung relative to its contemporaries — the Traction Avant always possessed a unique look, which went from appearing rakish in 1934 to familiar and somewhat old fashioned by 1955.
The suspension was very advanced for the car’s era. The front wheels were independently sprung, using a torsion bar and wishbone suspension arrangement, where most contemporaries used live axle and cart-type leaf spring designs. The rear suspension was a simple steel beam axle and Panhard rod with unequal trailing arms, to allow the two torsion bars to run parallel to each other, across the car’s width.
